Mental Wellness App for Mindway

The challenge

Mindway wanted to create a mental wellness app combining guided meditation, mood tracking and professional resources in one seamless experience.

What we delivered

We delivered a mobile app with personalised wellness journeys, daily mood check-ins, guided meditation sessions, progress analytics, and a calm interface that supports rather than gamifies wellbeing.

Designing against engagement metrics

Most wellness apps optimise for daily active use, which quietly pushes them toward streaks, badges and notification pressure. For a mental health product that is an uncomfortable incentive: the tactics that raise engagement are frequently the ones that increase anxiety.

We agreed an explicit design constraint at the start — no streaks, no loss-framing, no guilt-based notifications. Retention would have to come from the product being genuinely useful, which is a harder problem but the correct one for the category.

What we built

A React Native application with a Firebase backend, structured around short daily check-ins that take under thirty seconds. Mood data drives which content is surfaced, so the recommendation improves with use without requiring the user to configure anything.

Guided sessions stream progressively and cache locally, because a meditation that stalls to buffer defeats its own purpose. Offline availability was treated as a core requirement rather than an enhancement.

Outcome
